Captain Stephen Abbot Papers, 1782-1787.

Captain Stephen Abbot was a member of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, 10th Regiment commanded by Colonel Benjamin Tupper. Collection includes two orderly books kept by Abbot during 1782, for which transcriptions were made by G. A. Bourgeois; an additional volume of Cloathen [sic] accounts for Abbot's infantry company; personal accounts and receipts; and receipts pertaining to trading and potash businesses. Several of these accounts were with Elias Hasket Derby. Abbot served as the Tax Collector for the Town of Salem, MA. The Salem Tax List for 1786, included in this collection, lists the state, town, and county taxes received from residents of the town.
